and Historic Gould-Shaw House

Permanent and Temporary Exhibits

Our Permanent Exhibits

  • The Gould-Shaw House is the gem of the historical society, an unusual gothic-revival Victorian that has a storied history in Cloverdale. The rooms profile the artifacts of domestic life ~ parlor, nursery, dining area, and kitchen. Plans are in motion to exhibit the Gould-Shaw home as it would have appeared at the turn of the 20th century.

  • Pomo artistry and artifacts honor the history and cultural contributions of the Pomo tribes in the region. Visit for examples of basket making, grinding stones, and flake tools. Fish-trap and bird-trap examples demonstrate hunting techniques, as well. Our exhibit also features a beautiful print of a Pomo flute player, generously provided by Ukiah's Grace Hudson museum.

  • The Timeline Wall highlights key episodes in the history of the town and vicinity. This creative chronology helps a visitor trace the development of Cloverdale via historic moments and images.

  • The Citrus Fair, a tradition since 1892, has long delighted visitors with all the appeals of a country gathering. Our exhibit captures the history and flavor of this local institution, from one-hundred plus years of fair royalty and parades to farming and husbandry demonstrations. And where else in the world do they build towering sculptures comprised of citrus? The Statue of Liberty. A World Cup stadium. The Iwo Jima flag raising. It's marvelous, and while the fair lasts just four days a year, our exhibit is here year-round to make you smile.

  • The Gray exhibit hall houses our historic mudwagon and profiles vintage tools, equipment, and machinery, especially those essential to timber and agriculture.

  • Bank of Cloverdale's Curious Cannonball Safe is exactly what you might imagine. A silver spherical safe; a melon-shaped money holder. This is a new acquisition, and the historical society is at work developing a permanent exhibit dedicated to banking and commerce in the community.
